Celebrating 50 years!

Board Notes

Dear Windyrush Members,

We are extremely excited about the new clubhouse renovation and overall improvements that are being made to the infrastructure of the club. Unfortunately, we do not anticipate opening until the weekend of May 24th; a short one-week delay. I’m sure everyone is more than aware of how much rain and cooler temperatures we’ve had over the past five months. This moisture, lower temps and even humidity have not allowed us to proceed with working on things such as poured concrete, sheetrock mudding and laying new floor and wall tile. The delays caused a ripple effect with step by step construction progress along with having to wait for individual inspections per each project such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.

In addition, all aspects of construction during this process uncovered numerous hidden problems that we were not anticipating. An example of this was having to remove and replace one hundred percent of the original pipes and electrical wiring that were not up to current day code.  After fifty years, the building itself had seemingly countless issues that had to be added to the list of items that could not simply be repaired but had to be completely replaced pushing back the expected completion date.

In the meantime, we anticipate the possibility of one to two weeks of swim practice being moved to an alternate site until we can officially open. Mecklenburg County will not allow us to use the club with active construction. We will let you know as soon as possible where this temporary practice site will be. We will be meeting with the building inspector and all contractors next week. As soon as we know more an updated email will be sent to the membership.
Most importantly, we can’t thank you enough for your patience and understanding as this has not been an easy task by far but will be more than worth it when you get to see the finished project that will take us well into the next fifty years of good times at the Rush.
