This season, 197 Dolphins, 53 Shrimpers, and 22 Seahorses spent many fun hours in the pool working on strokes, starts, and turns and WOW!! All that hard work really paid off! For the second year in a row, we finished the regular season in second place in Division One. Earlier this month, we capped off a fantastic season with an incredible first place finish in the Division One All-Star meet! That plants us firmly among and above the best summer teams in the city!
These kids and young men and women had so many personal wins it’s impossible to list them all. There were first swims, first flip turns, first individual medleys, fastest times, exciting team relay wins, and new team records. From the youngest to the oldest, the littlest to the biggest, the whole team did an awesome job of cheering for and encouraging each other. Swimmers: you made this season fun, exciting, and a joy to watch- great job, team!
This year’s Ryan McGee Spirit Award went to John Jackson. This award is given to a member of our team who embodies good sportsmanship; shows great, positive team spirit; and does an excellent job encouraging teammates. Congratulations John!
Our annual awards went to the following swimmers:
Seahorse Coaches’ Award: Abby Riordan, Charles BenchichFinally, these swimmers had first place finishes in their All-Star events: Coby Berkeley, Addison Countryman, Erin Greathouse, Lanie Holden, Joey Johnson, Frances Norton, Jane Penland, Olivia Vuchnich.
Be sure to check out the team record board at the pool to see who wound up with new records this season! We’re already looking forward to an even better 2020 season- just keep swimming!
2nd place for the 2019 regular season!Nothing could derail our Diving Dolphins this year – not a delayed pool opening, not storms, not even glass in the pool – as our 30+ member team snatched second place for the 2019 regular season and third (by a smidge) at the all-star meet on June 29. By all accounts, the 2019 season is one for the record books.
This year’s team was anchored by many returning divers, including our four high school coaches – Addie, Greyson, Michael and Patrick — who collectively, have been part of our Windyrush program for more than 25 years. Their continued dedication and commitment to this team has helped extend our traditions (yay Fun Fridays) and spark some passion for the sport for our newest divers.
When you add to the mix several year-round divers, some exceptional gymnasts, a few fearless flippers, a host of fun-loving, coachable athletes and a bunch of patient and kind parents, we have the makings of an unstoppable team for years to come.
There were so many memorable moments this season it’s hard to highlight them all. Instead, check out a few of our action shots captured by the Angela Studnek – mom to all-star divers Abby and Emma. Angela graciously offered her photography services after – you guessed it – our team pictures were canceled twice, once for weather and once for having to relocate our meet because of glass in our pool.
