Board Notes

To our valued members –

We hope you were able to enjoy the last weekend of the pool season in the unexpected 80° weather. We are very appreciative of our members for understanding and following the procedures and guidelines that we had in place this year at the pool and continue to have at the tennis facilities. As we all navigate the continuous changes with Covid-19 our membership and staff have stayed positive and enjoyed all that our special club has to offer.

We would like to extend our appreciation this summer to our staff; Club Manger, Phyllis Smith, Pool Manager, Barbara Owens, lifeguard staff, Dolphin Diner Manager, Teresa Hollmeyer, snack bar employees, Tennis Director John Trimp and our Tennis Camp Leader/Junior Clinic Director, Heidi Witzel. Tennis camp was a big success this summer with record summer camp turnout! The courts have been very active with increased play from adults of all ages and families. Our social board directors Dave McDonald and Kelli Green planned several fun Food Truck Fridays along with our favorite Kids In America Band event! We look forward to our upcoming Fall Festival cohosted with OPCA and one of our favorites, DJ Jeremy. 

Please mark your calendars for this year’s Annual Membership Meeting. The meeting will be held on Monday, November 9 at 7:00pm. The location of this year’s meeting is TBD. At this meeting the membership will be electing 5 board members. Members have 1 vote per family. The positions up for re-election this year are President, Secretary and three at-large positions (socials, men’s tennis representative and marketing). Current Board Member Mike Waleski, is running for President, current Board Member Leigh Howell is running again for Secretary, current Board Member Kelli Green is running again for at-large socials and current Board Member Barry Reeves is running again for at-large marketing. Men’s tennis representative is an open position. 

Even though we have members willing to serve in the above positions, if you or someone you know is interested in serving on the board, please send your name or your friend’s name to Phyllis Smith at office@windyrush.com. Board members will serve a two-year term, attend monthly meetings and have a membership dues benefit after serving one year.

A nominating committee made up of the Board President, Secretary, Club Manager and two members will be reviewing all nominations and presenting the names for election to the membership at the upcoming Annual Membership Meeting. A Board candidate newsletter will be emailed soon to provide more details about all nominees. 

Club Notes

Annual invoices will be emailed November 1. If you do not plan on renewing your membership for the 2021 season please contact Phyllis Smith at office@windyrush.com.
Dues for the coming year are $870.00 and payable by March 1, 2021. You may receive an early payment discount of $50 if payment is received by January 1, 2021 making the amount due $820.00. 
The initiation fee for new members has increased to $2,500.00. We will continue to offer the option to pay a partial initiation fee payment of $2,000.00 upon joining, one year later the balance of $500.00 is due. Future applicants will pay a $100.00 non-refundable application fee to be added to the waiting list. The application fee will be applied to their membership dues once membership space is available.

Dear fellow Windyrush members,
The Vetter & Carlton families want to thank you for supporting ourrecent Little Heroes Blood Drive at the ‘Rush. Little Heroes Blood Drives are happening across Charlotte this month in honor/memory of children fighting cancer. The goal was 30 blood drives in 30 days and as of now there are a total of 38 blood drives – Windyrush being one of the drives. The overall goal was 500 donors but we expect that number to be much closer to 1,000. 

Windyrush Little Heroes Blood Drive was a HUGE success!

Thanks to so many of you we had a total of 59 donors! Originally, our goal was 40 donors but when the second bus was added, our members stepped up and filled more spots! Every donor can save up to three lives so think of it as 177 people we will help from our blood drive alone. This is amazing!

We are grateful to all of you and to our club for allowing us to host this event in honor of our little hero, Levi Vetter.

Tennis Only Membership
Tennis Membership initiation fee is $550 plus yearly dues of $550.00. If you know someone interested in joining please have them emailoffice@windyrush.com for a membership application.  
 Tennis Pavilion Hours:
Tennis pavilion hours are 8:00am-10:00pm. Property gates are unlocked at 8:00am and locked at 10:00pm daily.

Looking for a place to host an outdoor party?
The tennis pavilion is a great place to rent!

*Please remember that children need to be supervised at the tennis pavilion if they are ages 10 and under. Appropriate tennis attire must be worn on the courts. Trash needs to be thrown away and cushions and chairs need to be returned to the proper locations.*

**Children should not be on the courts unless they are playing tennis. Children should NEVER be on the pavilion roof. Please let a staff member know if children are not following the rules.

Guests must be accompanied by a member. Guest fees are $5.00 per guest. Please leave your guest fee payments in the box on the clay court entrance marked “Guest Fees”.

Interested in having your business advertised on a banner or in the newsletter? Run an ad in the newsletter for $25.00 per month or have a banner displayed on the tennis fence for $50.00 per month or advertise for several months. Advance payment for 5 months will include one month free, get 6 months for the cost of 5 months. Advanced payment for 9 months will include three months free, get 12 months for the cost of 9. Banner size requirement size is 8’x3′ with a white background. Banner must be preapproved by the Board.
