The positions up for re-election this year are Vice President, Treasurer and three At-Large positions.
Board Notes
This year’s Annual Membership Meeting will take place Monday, November 15 6:30pm at the new pool pavilion. The membership will be electing 5 board members. Members have 1 vote per family. The positions up for re-election this year are Vice President, Treasurer and three at-large positions (socials, ladies tennis representative and pool/grounds). Current Board Members Philip Prince is running for Vice President, Sarah Gass for Treasurer, Joni Smith for at-large ladies tennis representative, and Mark Wilson for at-large pool/grounds. Socials is an open position. Two candidates are running for the open socials position. The current board nominees are running unopposed. The nominating committee approved the following below candidates. Board officers’ will serve a two-year term, attend monthly meetings, and have a membership dues benefit after serving one year. Please plan to attend this informational meeting on November 15 to elect this year’s Board of Directors.
*If you are unable to attend this year’s meeting you will still be able to vote. We will send a voting link prior to the meeting. Members have 1 vote per family.*
Nominee for Vice President-Philip Prince
Philip currently serves on the board as VP. He has previously served as Treasurer. Philip and his wife Susan have two children. Ben is 12 and Jillian is 8.He grew up in Greenville, SC and has been in Charlotte since 1995. Philip is a Builder Financer with FNB. He and his family have been enjoying Windyrush since 2011. Philip enjoys trail biking with his son, hiking with the family, working in the yard, and just spending time with his family. The Princes love swim team, summers at the pool, and playing tennis. Hi goals for the coming year are to continue making impactful updates to the swim and tennis facilities and making it an enjoyable experience for all members.
Nominee for Treasurer-Sarah Gass
Sarah currently serves as the Windyrush Treasurer. She and her husband Travis have two daughters, Lillian (12) and Elizabeth (7). She is originally from
Middletown, NY but Charlotte has been home since 2005. Sarah is the General Accounting Sr Manager at Krispy Kreme, Inc. Previous Treasurer Experience: Carolina Breast Friends (2011 - 2017) and Olde Providence PTA (2017 - 2019). The summer of 2021 was their 6th summer season at Windyrush. Her hobbies and interests are traveling, camping, family, and wine. Her daughter Lillian has been a Dolphin since 2017 and joined the Dive Team for the 2021 season. Elizabeth enjoyed her second season as a Dolphin. Sarah and Travis enjoy spending time with their family and friends at the pool, especially Panther Sundays!
Goals for the coming year is to be a part of the continued growth of Windyrush. Outside of the club, her goal is to travel with her family and continue with their home improvement projects.
Nominee for At-large socials-Caroline Byrnes
Caroline and her husband Ryan have a 3 ½ year old son Lucas. Her hometown is Grand Rapids, Michigan. When Caroline is not on the courts or enjoying the socials at the Club, she is busy as a realtor and owner of Chloe & Lucas a women and children’s online clothing boutique. She and her family have been Windyrush members for 2 years. Her hobbies/interests are tennis, exploring Charlotte’s restaurants and breweries, decorating their home, helping others with their homes, and helping mom’s shop for themselves and for their families. Her family loves the pool, especially Lucas, he took swim lessons with Coach Diane this past summer. She enjoys playing tennis and they love attending socials. This coming years’ goals (as a member and outside of the club) are to meet more members and play more tennis! They enjoy all the socials. Caroline thinks we can come up with some fun new ways to gather and socialize beyond the pool season. She is new to real estate and hopes to be able to help clients find or sell their homes. She is hoping to have more flexibility to spend time with family and friends.
Nominee for At-large socials-Betsy Leonardi
Betsy and her husband Matt have 2 children, Rosalie (6) and Lucas (4). She is originally from Manhasset, Long Island, New York. Betsy works for an Operational Risk team at Wells Fargo. They have been members since 2017.
Her hobbies and interests are golf, tennis, hanging out with family and friends, riding her Peloton, powerwalking around Chadwyck, Wessex & OP (often with my 2 big pups), watching football during the fall, watching most other sports as well, reading, listening to music whenever possible (especially live music), and having fun!
As a family they love everything about the Club! They especially love the pool. Betsy got into Masters Swim this summer and attended most mornings. Her daughter was on the swim team for the first summer, and she can't wait to go back! They are working to get their son pool-safe, and hope that he can join his big sister on the swim team next summer. Go Dolphins! They also love to play tennis and are trying to play more and more. She hopes to join this social position to help plan for outings, during which we can do more socializing and meeting other families. Windyrush is such a fun & comfortable place to hang out. We want to do more and more of that!!
Their goals for the coming year were mentioned above, but to get her children stronger in the pool so that they can all enjoy the Windyrush pool more. She also wants them to learn more about golf and tennis, so that one day they can play as a team of 4. She also wants to meet more people, and expand her network at Windyrush, which she finds is filled with such wonderful families. It's such a gift to be members here!
Nominee for At-large Ladies Tennis Representative-Joni Smith
Joni currently serves as the ladies tennis representative. She and her husband Steve have 27-year-old twin boys Carson and Brady, and an 18-year-old daughter Leah. Hometown is Cincinnati, Ohio but she has lived in Charlotte since 1997. Joni is mainly a stay-at-home mom with a graphic design business as her side kick. They have been Club members for over 15 years. She enjoys CrossFit, Tennis and Traveling. Their family time at Windyrush has changed throughout the years. They used to spend endless hours at the pool and participated with swim team. Nowadays they are almost exclusively on the tennis courts playing in leagues and social tennis with friends. They also enjoy the swim socials.
Joni and her husband Steve are excited to become empty nesters next year when their youngest goes off to college. They are fortunate that their older boys work and live in Charlotte. It’s fun to see the tennis program continue to grow with so many new men, women, young adults, and kids out on the courts. We have such a wonderful tennis community. She’s looking forward to expanding women’s tennis at Windyrush. We are in the midst of adding more QC and USTA ladies’ league teams enabling more playing time for everyone. She also wants to host 2-3 ladies tennis socials each year.
Nominee for At-large Pool/Grounds-Mark Wilson
Mark is our current pool/grounds board member. He has two children, daughter Sarah Cameron (17) and son Jackson (15). He has been a member off and on since 1977. Most recently he has been a member for the last eleven years. Mark was born in Lexington, KY moving to Charlotte when he was five in 1977. He is the Director of Aerospace-MRO Strategic Global Accounts with TAT Technologies, the old Piedmont Airlines. His hobbies include being at the pool pretty much every weekend and holidays! Golf and anything App State, UNC, Carolina Panthers and South Meck Athletics. As a family they love to take ski trips out west or go on scuba diving/deep sea fishing expeditions.
Mark has currently served on the board now passing his tenth year. The Club has come such a long way from where it was to where it currently is with the expansion and completion of some of the finest pool and tennis pavilion facilities in our price range in all of Charlotte and surrounding communities. The consistent lengthy wait list every season is a strong statement to how hard this board works to give the best experience to our current and prospective members. He takes it very personally to keep Windyrush such a special and unique hidden gem with endless fun for all ages to continue enjoying for years to come.
